Video Who Will know (Shin Gojira)

Desde hace unos días traía las ganas de volver a ver esta película. De la cual ya había escrito cuando la vi la primera vez. Pero esta vez le tuve que dar una mirada mucho más profunda y critica.

Ya que la primera vez no atrape todas las referencias que tenia con Evangelion. Además de que tomándome el tiempo, en especial con la música, todo toma un sentido nuevo.

Dos buenos ejemplos se encuentran en las pistas Who will know y Persecution of the masses.

If I die in this world. Who will know something of me?

Cuando la vuelves a ver, es que entiendes la razón de ser de las líricas.

Te percatas de la ironía de las mismas con relación a lo que sucede. Del sufrimiento de la criatura. De que quizá hay algo más que está jalando los hilos.

I am lost, no one knows

En lo personal, siempre he encontrado que los japoneses son mejores contando historias como un todo. Y la música les imprime un sentimiento. Eso es lo que yo encuentro en esta pista que les comparto hoy.

Es, para mi, una de las mejores del soundtrack. Junto con Persecution of the masses y… EM20…

I wear a void. Not even hope

Es de esas películas que merecen ser vistas varias veces para entenderlas a fondo. Más allá del conflicto de la burocracia japonesa. En donde Gojira es victima de si mismo. La propia tragedia del monstruo. Quien no decidió ser lo que es.

Además claro de que será un buen aperitivo antes de ir de lleno con Pacific Rim: Uprising. En lo que llega la nueva del Godzilla americano… y hasta que salga la continuación de Shin Gojira en 2020. Por parte de Toho. Que ahí si será una espera angustiante.

Conclusiones por ahora

Who will know servirá por ahora para recordar algunas de las escenas de Shin Gojira. Para recordar la tragedia del monstruo. Quien no eligió ser lo que es.

Una de las cosa que más quiero es ver más del genero Kaiju. De los monstruos gigantes. Y si es con buenas historias, mucho mejor. Con los sube y baja, además de vaivenes, se vuelve un poco complicado.

Yo en especial espero que Toho, cuando en el 2020 pueda seguir lanzando nuevas películas de Gojira, siga la misma línea que ahora. Después de todo, Shin Gojira seria parte de una Trilogía. De la cual solo tenemos la primera parte.

La cual al final dejo más dudas que respuestas…

Espero que podamos ver pronto lo que hace falta de esa historia.

Video de REV (LiLA’c Remix)

El buscar entre música de grupos doujin normalmente paga. Y paga bien para quienes son audiófilos. Con tantas opciones y variedades que simplemente podría tardar días en escucharlo todo.

Aunque esta vez me tocó compartir esta pista del disco STAR GAZE, del grupo Lila’c, es simplemente una pequeña muestra. Ya que siempre se puede encontrar de todo. Tanto bueno como malo.

A veces encontrar esas pequeñas joyas en algún álbum es realmente placentero. Por lo cual es algo que debería de seguir haciendo… cuando tenga de nuevo el tiempo completo.

Ya que dejar los tracks con los nombres y caratulas correctas puede ser algo que consume mucho tiempo.

Esto a pesar de que logre hacerlo eficiente a lo largo de los años. Sin embargo, esa mania ciertamente no pagaba en el aspecto de ser útil a largo plazo.

En todo caso, ¿Ya la habían escuchado? ¿Qué les parece?

Video de My Fading Days

Debo de ser honesto, jamás le he encontrado el gusto a las líricas… guturales. Sin embargo en este caso, siento que empatan bastante bien con la voz de Akemi.

Es una canción que si bien no la podría escuchar varias veces seguidas, tiene cosas buenas y que se pueden disfrutar.

Además My Fading Days me recuerda que quizá deba de escarbar un poco más en los trabajos que Akemi ha colaborado. Posiblemente tenga algunos por ahí.

Sobretodo la composición del remix. Y la combinación de voces hacen sobresalir esta pista de una forma inusual.

Esto igual me recuerda que quizá deba de indagar mucho más entre los secretos de mi colección de música. Después de todo podría estar escuchando por 2 meses seguidos sin parar sin que una se repita.

Pero esto será todo por ahora.

Video de Diamond Crevasse

Diamond Crevasse, ending de Macross Frontier, es simplemente muy emotiva. Cantada por el personaje Sheryl Nome, interpretada por May Nakabayashi, simplemente comunica un enorme sentimiento de tristeza y esperanza.

Frontier regresó a lo que le dio éxito a la serie original de Macross: Un triángulo amoroso con una guerra intergalactica de trasfondo.

Los personajes estaban bien diseñados y podías identificarte con ellos de una manera u otra. La calidad en su narrativa e historia valieron mucho la espera.

Tener una serie de esta calidad, para Macross, debería de ser una prioridad. Esta es la fórmula que realmente funciona.

Mientras que no tengo nada en contra de Macross Delta, esta última simplemente no me hizo esperar con ansias cada nuevo capítulo. Le hicieron falta muchos elementos que mantuvieran la serie junta e igual se sintió muy apresurada.

Posiblemente en una nueva entrega las cosas se hagan nuevamente de la forma correcta. Solo queda esperar.

PostData: Si, ya se que el cover del Disco Compacto en donde viene Diamond Crevasse es realmente sugestivo. Pero se sorprenderán de lo poco que la gente agarra este tipo de referencias mercadológicas.

Aun así, es un buen cover y realmente no revela nada malo… a menos que sepas las intenciones ocultas tras él.

Video de Dog Fighter de Macross

El soundtrack de la serie original de Macross es simplemente una obra de arte.

Es una pena que se haya perdido para una buena parte de los fans quienes solamente conocerán Robotech. Aunque con el Internet, es más fácil de encontrar y disfrutar la serie original en toda su gloria.

Compuesto por Kentaro Haneda, mezcla la orquesta y la guitarra eléctrica de una forma especial. Memorable, siempre que escucho los primeros segundos no hago otra cosa que disfrutar.

Ojalá y un día podamos ver un remake completo de la serie original de Macross, como en su momento se le realizó a Yamato. Claro, no a todos les gustaría la idea, pero yo creo que pudiera tener mucho potencial si es bien dirigido y se trata de apegar lo más posible al original.

Pero ya veremos.

Mind you, I have liked the Kaiju genre for some quite time… since I have been a kid. I remember that they used to broadcast the old Gojira movies in the TV here… what, thinking more carefully, was a complete surprise and awesome.

Yet, I missed the 2014 theatrical release and the new Japanese version… somehow… something I had to fix once I was able to see Kong.

I was not personally disappointed.

But then, I was able to then understand why some people told me that the 2014 version of Godzilla was «boring». I mean, while it is clearly way better than the 1998 version… it still has some serious flaws.

If we look back, Godzilla has been always a movie about a terrific creature that is either a menace to the mankind or fights against monsters destroying everything in its wake. What did make the toho movies so great is that they focused on the battles.

The 2014 version missed big time almost not showing Godzilla. He got like 10 minutes worth of screen time when he should have got much more.

Yet, the little we see about it was not disappointing. We manage to see some of the former glory of Godzilla in the last few minutes of the movie. Of course, I was kind of frustrated that, for the way of telling, the movie ended focusing much more on the human side rather than the Kaiju. Heck, this kind of movies are about THE monsters, not about how much a soldier struggles and does not get killed just because the writer does not want to. At some point, it felt stupid that when the kaiju action started… it was left behind by a scene change or a closing door. Nuts.

But maybe they wanted to avoid the same mistakes that the 1998 version did?

Of course, Kong did fix this. Legendary learned from this and gave us much more screen time of the monster we went to see.

Looking it in the reverse order, I can totally tell they did learn from the mistakes they did and fixed it up. We got a proper development of the monster and even we get some shots of it that let you appreciate it better. It does not focus only on the human side, but neither abandons it. Even characters are much more consistent and deeper, with stronger motivations.

I certainly want to see the upcoming films, they being Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs King Kong. About the last one… I have no idea how they will do that because Godzilla will for sure win given it is bigger and he has… well… more powers.

But the 2014 version did fall short to Shin Gojira. The Japanese reboot of 2016.

While the Japanese version has its own share of issues, it does not fail to deliver a much darker and terrific version of Gojira than the one of the 70’s and 80’s. The CGI itself is not the best around (mind you, with a 15 million budget, they did amazingly well), it delivers enough to actually enjoy the moments.

On it, we see a random Gojira stomping cities across japan, aiming towards Tokyo, while the Japanese government struggles with the challenge. The movie lacks a proper «leading character» like you may find usually in this kind of movies. Actually, I may consider that you see an «organizational character». This is, is the full government organization that fights the monster as a whole… maybe because that is more «natural» for the Japaneses.

Yet in some scenes, it feels awkward that people don’t run when they see a giant tail swinging over its heads. And a bunch of other things does not make sense… heck, I even think that one day we see a city destroyed and it is fine the next day.

But those are minor things.

What makes it more epic is that you can certainly feel the power of Gojira. Like an impending disaster no matter what they do to try and stop it. Add the fact that the movie was directed by the same man that directed Evangelion and that the music was composed by the same man that… guessed it? yup, the same one that composed Evangelion soundtrack… yeah, you get the idea that it feels epic and dark at many levels… with people struggling and such.

He does not mind to destroy everything around him… especially after being attacked. And that is something that the Japanese version uses perfectly that the American version did not. Toho version showcases Gojira’s abilities at its extent after it is advanced into its quick evolution and adaptation.

Even while he is still a full-time villain at this time, and defeated, we are given hints about something may not be all right with him.

For example, during the whole movie we get a lot of shots were his tail is predominant, or at least the focus shifts towards it. It is not a coincidende that such thing happened, and much less once you see the ending.

There are a bunch of theories around about what it may mean the last scene of the movie. Some say that it is Gojira reproducing asexually, others say about its 5th form. Maybe there is something much dark there, given that we had the director of Evangelion working on this… they could be spawns? It is a possibility… maybe not «little» Gojiras… maybe little spawns that will just attack people… who knows.

But if they follow up the line in the next movies that Toho is to release about Gojira, that are going to be like 2-3 more, I am totally sure that they will be worth the wait and to watch.
